In an industry dominated by men, The Connecticut Real Estate Investors Association, or CT REIA, has helped nurture a wide array of talented women who are more than up for the task. The 2018 Women in Real Estate Award Winner Marguerite Haughton is a loving mother and active member of her community who still manages to find time to be an expertly skilled real estate entrepreneur.
Marguerite shares the same goals and ambitions with her husband, Paul Haughton. They make an excellent team, already completing four house flips and one buy-and-hold multi-family property this year. Her role in their partnership, called Lucent Properties LLC, is negotiating and raising private money. She wants all the people she deals with to be happy buyers, so she trains herself to be as charismatic as possible with motivational exercises and mental conditioning.
Marguerite doesn’t find being a woman to hold her back in the slightest in the investor game. She finds that at CT REIA, everyone is treated equally and with care by their superbly talented team of coaches. It’s her belief that in CT REIA’s Fast-Track Team Coaching program, once you get comfortable, you’ll feel like you can be the best in the business no matter what your gender or ethnicity.
Marguerite home-schools their five children and they often get involved in the family business. They are learning math, creativity, conversations, and entrepreneurship so they will be empowered to live their dreams when they grow up.
Her advice to women who are nervous or who don’t think they have the time to get into real estate is to just “go for it. The sky’s the limit, and the market is really ramping up in Connecticut!” She highly recommends attending CT REIA meetings and Fast-Track Team Coaching Program where you can find a way to juggle your investor business with raising a family or going to work. Marguerite is a prime example and thinks you can be successful too.
